EQUIPMENT CLEANING TIPS

  1. Sprinkle Odor Eater´s foot powder on your hockey gloves, skates, shoulder pads, shin guards, etc. after every game to kill odor. Foot powder has an antibacterial agent that destroys the odor causing bacteria.
  2. Use an old pair of hockey socks as skate guards. It will help draw the moisture off of your blades, as well as protect your bag from skate cuts.
  3. Use plastic skate guards to walk from the dressing room to the arena to protect your edge. The black mats are dirty and are abrasive to your edges.
  4. To prevent fogging, smear liquid dish soap on your visor and let it dry.  Once dry, buff it with a soft cloth until clear.
  5. If you like to wet your gloves at the sink because they are hard, try this.  Fill a squirt bottle half water and half Murphy´s oil soap. Squirt your gloves with the solution instead of wetting them with water to prevent them from getting hard.  Store the bottle in your bag for use before every game.
  6. Pull up your insoles and store your skates with the toes in the air. This  will draw the moisture from the rivets, preventing rusting.
  7. If you want to remove rust from your blades, try steel wool.  Remember, only try this when you need to have your skates sharpened. The steel wool will remove your edge.
  8. Use peroxide to remove blood from equipment.
  9. Smear toothpaste on your visor and buff it off to eliminate scratches.
